Rooted in Relief: Carving, Culture and Community

John Lanzador is a Philippine-American artist and educator focused on public art projects that highlight storytelling, identity, and belonging. In this presentation he’ll share his journey through collaborative public art projects including as the 2025 Artist in Residence at the REC at the Cincinnati Art Museum. His bas-relief wood carvings, a traditional Philippine technique, are rooted in religious art, showing how cultural heritage and storytelling shape his creative practice.
